Prepare for an Emergency & Help Support Blue Heron School

The Blue Heron PTA Emergency Kit is designed to provide 1 person with essential emergency preparedness supplies for 3 days. Supplies in this kit are contained in waterproof zip-slide bag and stores easily at home, at the office, at school, or in a car. Each Emergency Pack has a 5 year shelf-life.

Head to Grant Street Elementary to for math night. What a great way to discover ways to reach your student and play at the same time. Math will be the theme as we explore, play games and activities while introducing math curriculum. Food provided from 5-530PM activities to follow. February 8. 5-630PM. Making Friends with yourself, mindful compassion for teens.

The Benji Project is a local non profit organization missioned to "Help teens navigate emotional ups and downs with greater ease"

Adolescence is a time of growth and self-discovery. But it is also often fraught with confusion, anxiety or depression. Mindfulness and self compassion can help teens cope more effective. The Benji Project provides programs focused on students ages 11-to 19 and their parents. The workshop "Making Friends with Yourself" shares specific tools to build greater resilience.

Join honorary host Holley Carlson of PTEF or a special evening of theater in support of The Benji Project.

Enjoy Key City Public Theatre’s production of “The Book Club Play” and a festive champagne and dessert reception at intermission.

Construction Update

Port Townsend School District Announces new principal for Blue Heron Middle School

The Port Townsend School District would like to announce Patrick Gaffney as the new Blue Heron Principal. Mr. Gaffney has 19 years of service in public education and has been a teacher, counselor, and administrator; most recently he taught mathematics in Memphis, Tennessee.

He was a 7-12 Assistant Principal/Athletic Director in Chewelah, Washington prior to his Tennessee experience. He began his teaching career in Ocean Shores, Washington.

"I am excited and thankful to be selected as the Principal of the Blue Heron School. I look forward to becoming part of the Port Townsend community. Throughout the process of applying and interviewing for the position, each person I met was kind and genuine. I truly appreciated the opportunity to meet part of the community during the evening forum. It is very evident to me that education is a high priority for all stakeholders in this community. I look forward to serving the Port Townsend school district during the 2017-18 school year."

Thanks to all who came out to celebrate summer's arrival and raise funds for the Port Townsend Education Foundation. The dancing was epic, the sunset was stunning, the food outrageous and the superheros were in full force, busting their moves for a cause. Thanks to all who came out to support our efforts to enrich the educational experiences of our students.

Blue Heron Middle School Sixth grade students at Tales Text and Theater

During Tales, Texts & Theater , the entire sixth grade student body of Port Townsend’s Blue Heron Middle School will work with vital, contemporary artists in a variety of disciplines—creative writing, theatrical movement, music, and visual art—for a weeklong immersion in creativity.

Beginning each day with a core subject, students get an in depth concentration on a genre of their choice. Then they explore by learning about other art forms in their other three classes, seeing how the different arts interconnect.

Each afternoon, the core artist faculty show and talk about the work they do. At the end of the week, students share their creative experiments with the community in a student showcase performance
